Lab-On-A-Book: Hands-on Chemistry for Curious Minds

Lab-On-A-Book is a paper-based chemistry kit designed for middle school students (ages 11–14) in under-resourced environments. The kit, structured like a book, enables students to perform experiments directly on its pages, which also serve as the primary materials for the activities. It features eleven experiments covering fundamental chemistry concepts, including atoms, density, pH, and mixtures. These inquiry-driven activities are also designed to minimize direct instruction, primarily introducing scientific principles and the paper materials in the book. Beyond completing the provided experiments, students are encouraged to expand upon them and design their own investigations. This approach makes the kit cost-effective compared to traditional science kits by enabling hands-on learning without requiring a physical laboratory.
